MIRAGE LOCATION TRACKING PLATFORM
SS-7 based real time in-country cellphones location tracking platform
Mirage is a platform designed for real-time location detection of devices containing SIM cards and registered with in HLR and VLR of one or several national wireless carriers.

The system supports tracking of mobile terminals registered with national operators within the country, mobile terminals of subscribers of national operators roaming outside the country, and mobile terminals of other foreign subscribers served by partner national operators under roaming scenario.

Mirage emulates operation of a typical mobile switch, supports the generation of standard enquiries and exchanges information with partner switches via the SS7 signaling system.

The accuracy of location detection is to the sector of the base station. It is possible to periodically determine the location of the mobile terminal in automatic mode (maintenance mode). Better accuracy can be achieved in areas with larger number of wireless sites.

Google services can be used to visualize the location of mobile terminals (does not require cellular base stations location updating)

The system can alert user about two or more target terminals meeting within a certain geographical area. The system also tracks events like activation of target cellphone inside e pre-defined area, or movement of the cellphone outside the cell sector.
System implementation does not affect performance of partner mobile switches. To keep the load low, Mirage generates a sequence of queries. The size of 1 request is 2,048 kB. For example, request 1007 is not sent until request 1006 will not be processed or rejected due to timeout (set by the user). In most cases, the processing of 1 user request takes 5… 10 seconds, the worst result – 40 to 60 seconds.

In order to provide for balanced performance, the number of workstations is limited to 20 units per signaling link. When the number of workstations exceeds 20 units, there will be a need for additional SS7 signaling link to the existing or new mobile switch of the partner operator.

Accuracy of location information depends on the distance between the target mobile phone and the serving base station. Location information is usually much more accurate in urban areas. In the city accuracy varies from 100 to 450 meters; suburban areas - from 450 to 2000 meters; in other areas the accuracy ranges from 1,500 to 9,000 meters.
